TORONTO - The Beau's Beer Hack held on to defeat the Wheatfield Souldiers 2-1 this past Friday night at McCormick Arena, securing a semi-final playoff berth in the process. Meanwhile, the Jokers conjured a last-minute lamplighter to draw even with the Brockton Rockets, sending that game into the books as a 3-3 tie.
It was old home week in the Wheatfield Souldiers dressing room as the team welcomed back veteran forward Brad Sveistrup and Exclaim! Cup alumni Rejean Ricard, both of whom were visiting Toronto from Winnipeg over the weekend. Ricard, wearing borrowed gear (including skates a half size too big) would be the only Souldier to find the goal column on the night, deflecting a lobbed pass from Winnipeg-bound linemate Wes Gerbrandt off the shaft of his stick and into the corner of the net behind Hack goaltender Aaron Brophy. That goal merely halved the Hack lead, though, established by a pair of tallies by team scoring leader Chris Cacciotti. The Hack managed the victory despite having just two spares on the bench.
The game also marked the debut of goaltender Jesse Watson, who is expected to make additional appearances in net for Burton's Boys in the future. Watson stopped 10 of 12 shots faced, while Brophy turned aside 20 of 21 attempts, including 10 in the 3rd period alone.
