TORONTO - It was five years ago this week that the Humiliation and the Jokers both scored five goals in their respective games vs. the Parkdale Porcupines (remember them?) and the Dufferin Groove (who dat?), while the Brockton Rockets bettered the last-place Parkdale Hockey Lads by one, two, three goals to post a decisive 4-1 victory.
Humiliation forward Stephen Cribbin had opened the scoring for the Humiliation that night, registering one of the fastest goals (at the time, at least) in UUHA history by burying an Andrew Blakeley rebound just a minute and six seconds into the game. The goal stood up as the game-winner, too, as Luke Smit turned aside all 20 shots off Porcupines' sticks. The win secured 2nd place in the standings for the Humiliation giving them a record of 5-2-1 at the midway point of the 2015-2016 UUHA Regular Season.
For the Jokers that night it was usual suspect Steve Levine scoring his league-leading 8th goal, undressing a pair of Groovie defensemen on his way to goaltender Mario Pistone whilst extending his goal-scoring streak to five straight games. Levine was tied the for top spot in league at the time with teammate Gary Rideout Jr. as both players had 13 points. The Jokers were in 1st place in the standings, too, with a 6-1-1 record. The only team to have defeated them at that point was the Humiliation, while the Wheatfield Souldiers were responsible for the Jokers' lone draw.
Mike Frolick scored the only goal for the Lads that night, who were nursing a woeful record of 1-6-0 at the time. Oliver Sutherns, Michael Wilcox and Dustin Harris lit the lamp for the winning side (Wilcox had a pair). As has been the case for all of us for the past 9 months or so, the Gas Station Islanders, Beau's Beer Hack and Souldiers all had that night off. The Hack, of course, would go on to win the championship that season - the team's second title in a row.
