TORONTO - The inaugural game of the 2018/19 UUHA Regular Season will see the Parkdale Hockey Lads face off against the Jokers this Saturday afternoon under the iconic dome of Maple Leaf Gardens. Scheduled for a 2:00 pm start, the game represents a rematch of last season's Bronze Medal contest which saw the Jokers skate to a 4-2 victory overt the Lads. The two teams met twice during last Regular Season as well, resulting in a pair of Jokers' victories and a goal differential of 7-1. The last time the Lads registered a victory over the Funniest Team on Ice was Oct. 29, 2016 when Ian Seeton, Kyle Welton and Tommy Gough combined for 10 points en route to a 6-4 win at UCC's William P. Wilder Arena. The upcoming season has the Jokers and Lads facing off against one another three times, with game number two set for Dec. 1 and a rubber match scheduled for Jan. 19. Both of those games will take place at UCC.
Later, opening-day action gives way to a pair of opening-night contests at Upper Canada College, as the Humiliation goes up against the Wheatfield Souldiers at 7:00 pm, with the Brockton Rockets and Beau's Beer Hack following up at 8:00 pm. The evening's first match mirrors last season's Championship Final - a close, defensive game that saw the Souldiers pull ahead with a pair of late goals to capture their fifth UUHA Championship title. The well-matched teams split their two-game season series with one win each.
The Rockets and Hack last met in the 2018 UUHA Playoffs, as well, with the Brockton Boys doubling up the Beau's Brigade to the tune of 6-3 in the so-called Battle of Debasement. However, the Hack won last year's season series vs. the Rockets rather handily, defeating them on two occasions, and skating to a 4-4 season-opening draw.
The Gas Station Islanders will make their season debut at 7:00 pm next Saturday, Sept. 29 when they take on the Beau's Beer Hack.
