Humiliation Gets Stationed, Rockets Tie Hack, Jokers Stand Up Lads for 6th Straight Loss

TORONTO - The Humiliation ended up on the losing end of a 3-1 decision vs. the Gas Station Islanders this past Saturday night at Upper Canada College, while the Brockton Rockets and Beau's Beer Hack tied 5-5 in a battle between the top two teams in the UUHA standings. Meanwhile, the Jokers edged the Parkdale Hockey Lads 2-1, extending the latter's losing streak to six straight games.

Befitting the two highest-scoring teams in the league, the Rockets and Hack finished out the 1st frame of their latest contest with as many goals up on the scoreboard as an average UUHA game sees over the course of three periods.

James Neilson opened the scoring for the Rockets at the 9:03 mark, and potted his team's third goal, as well - a power-play tally with just 2:05 remaining in the period. The Hack's Chris Barkley was equal to that task, though, registering back-to-back 1st-period goals with Chris Cacciotti and Tim Bolen (2) assisting. Aaron Foster had the other early Hack goal while Daniel Wilcox buried his ninth of the season (with the assistance of Oliver Sutherns and Mario Vella). The sticks remained busy for both sides through the 2nd period, too, with Wilcox and Dustin Harris lighting the lamp for the Rockets, while Foster and Dom Hanlon kept the Beau's Boys in lock step of their opponents. Goaltenders Aaron Brophy and Jonathan Dickson conspired with their respective defencemen to batten down the 3rd-period hatches, though, as the two teams settled on a point each with a 5-5 draw.

The knotted result saw the Hack (9-2-2) extend their unbeaten streak to seven games. For the Rockets (7-4-2) the game represented the third straight game in which the team has failed to post a win, having been shutout by the Jokers the previous Saturday, and tying the Wheatfield Souldiers at Maple Leaf Gardens (also 5-5) prior to that. Next up for the Brocktonites is the Parkdale Lads, whom they'll face off against this coming Saturday. The Hack's forthcoming dance card featured a jitterbug with the Jokers.

Speaking of the Jokers and the Lads, those two squads turned in a comparatively low-scoring result this past Saturday night, with the Funniest Team on Ice claiming their second consecutive win in a 2-1 decision. Former Jokers spare Eric Coussette got the Lads on the board first, solving goaltender Burke Lawrence with an unassisted effort midway through the middle frame. Jokers captain Ted Bisaillion drew his side even at period's end, though, converting a buzzer beater from Steve Levine and Gary Rideout Jr. for his third goal of the campaign. The same three stooges would conspire for the game-winning tally at the 6:47 mark of the 3rd period, this time with Bisaillion and Levine setting up Rideout for the punchline. Lads goalie Luis Freitas turned aside 15 of 17 shots on the night, while Lawrence made good on 10 of the 11 chances he faced.

The result was not what the Lads were looking for, having failed to find the win column in their previous five games. The team's losing skid is now one game shy of the seven-game winning streak with which they started off the season, leaving them with a 7-6-0 record and a tenuous hold on 3rd place in the standings. Meanwhile, with the win the Jokers have improved to 6-6-1 and are currently nestled into 4th place, just a single point behind the Lads.

The Gas Station Islanders continued in their effort to turn things around this past Saturday night, registering a second consecutive win for the first time since the opening fortnight of the season - this time with a 3-1 victory over the Humiliation. Isles veteran Nick Purdon and rookie Courtnay Stevens put the Gassers up 2-0 early in the game, before Humiliation rookie Sean Morrison halved that lead at 8:51 of the 1st period. The 2nd period witnessed no scoring, however, the final frame would see Yan Bourassa spring Scott Adams for the insurance marker as the Gassers skated away with a couple points, improving to 5-9-0 in the process while welcoming some company (the Humiliation) into the basement apartment they're now just a win away from vacating.

Next up for the Humiliation is a tilt with the Wheatfield Souldiers, whom they've split the season series with so far at a game a piece. The Islanders, meanwhile, will enjoy back-to-back bye weekends (during which they're expected to participate in the annual Wolfe Island hockey tournament) before returning to action vs. the Jokers in February.
