TORONTO - Humiliation forward Stephen Cribbin returned from several weeks on the Injured Reserve list to lead his team past the Parkdale Hockey Lads with his first-ever hatrick this past saturday night. The three goals came in the 2nd period of the game and stood up as the only goals registered by either team throughout the contest. As such, the talies satisfied both popular criteria of a natural hatrick, being scored consecutively and uninterupted by other goals, and being registerd in the same period. However, despite Cribbin's heroics there were reportedly no actual hats thrown on the ice surface following the third goal.
The game was the first of a two-game aggregate playoff series between the longtime rivals. Game two of the series is scheduled for 7:00 pm next Saturday at UCC. Te odds are now stacked against the Lads who will have to better the Humiliation by at least three goals next weekend in order to win promotion to the Upper Bracket of the Qualifying Round of the UUHA Playoffs. The loser of the series will advance to the Lower Bracket of the Qualifying Round, but will still have a shot at appearing in the Gold Medal Game to be played Saturday, April 17.
Humiliation forwards Paul Morris and Mike Thompson both picked up single assists on Cribbin's goals, while Duncan Bunclark collected a pair of helpers. Humiliation defenceman Teige Reid, meanwhile, suffered an ankle injury midway through the 1st period and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Unconfirmed reports suggest Reid has a broken ankle and will unfortunatelt miss the remainder of the UUHA Playoffs - as well as next month's Super Cup Showdown 2010 - as a result. The league wishes Reid a speedy recovery and commends Lads players Stu Muirhead and Simon Evers for their efforts to comfort and assist the stricken player following his injury.
