Lads' Seeton Pads Stats vs. Souldiers While Hack, Porcs Extend Win Streaks

TORONTO - The Parkdale Hockey Lads dominated the Wheatfield Souldiers 7-3 this past Saturday night at Upper Canada College, with forward Ian Seeton leading the way with five goals. Meanwhile, the once lowly Beau's Beer Hack and Parkdale Porcupines continued to turn their season around, posting wins over the Brockton Rockets and Humiliation (respectively). The Hack have now won four straight, while the Porcupines have registered victories in three of their past four games.

Mike Frolick opened the scoring in the Lads/Souldiers second meeting of the season, bulging the twine behind goaltender Sheldon Shurland at the 7:00 mark of the first period. Fellow Lad Ian Seeton made it 2-0 just over two minutes later, burying a feed from linemate Kyle Welton. Souldiers winger Bob Lavery halved the lead with just over two minutes remaining in the period, but Welton restored the margin shortly thereafter. The 2nd period saw the squads draw at a goal a piece - the Souldiers' tally coming off the stick of team captain Chuck Molgat, who managed to solve spare goalie Marc Hickox with a tight wrister on the short side, and Seaton contributing his second of the game with the assistance of Tommy Gough and recent Lads signing, Eric Coussette. But the 3rd frame belonged to Seeton, who potted another pair within a minute, then his fifth on a breakaway with two seconds remaining in a game that was already long out of reach for the other team. The Lads and Souldiers (who tied 4-4 earlier in the season) are scheduled to clash one last time at 9:00 pm on Saturday, Jan. 27 at UCC.

Seeton's five-goal performance is the highest single-game goal tally of the season, and may represent a new UUHA Regular Season scoring record. (The playoffs single-game goal scoring record is still held by Wheatfield Souldiers forward Eric Toth, who potted six goals in the very first UUHA Championship Final in 2010.) Had Seeton's offensive explosion occurred in the NHL as a member of the Winnipeg Jets, one lucky Safeway Score-and-Win participant would've won 1 million dollars. (No member of the current Jets has ever scored five goals in a single game, although Mathieu Perreault tallied four times in a game two seasons ago and hit the post in the 3rd period.)

Gas Station Islanders regular Yan Bourassa also registered a goal for the Souldiers - his first of three tallies on the night, one in each of the evening's games. Believed to be a bonafide UUHA record, Bourassa's "spare-trick" came on a night when GSI was not scheduled to play, yet he was eager to get some action in as his work schedule has not synched well with the Gassers game schedule of late.

The Beau's Beer Hack got off to a quick start in their 8:00 pm game vs. the Humiliation with Gavin Patterson and Blake McDonald making it 2-0 by the midway point of the 1st period. The 2nd frame, however, belonged to the Black Wizards, as veteran Humiliation forward Paul Morris tallied, along with aforementioned super-spare Yan Bourassa. (Captain Mike Thompson assisted on both Humiliation goals, while Bourassa and Glenn Gummerson were also credited with helpers.) But it was the Hack's leading scorer Aaron Foster who would seal the deal for the Beau's Boys, combining with Patterson and Stefan Barkley a mere second after the expiration of a Hack power-play.

With the win the Hack improved to 4-5-1 on the season and now sit just two-and-a-half points out of 1st place in the standings. The Humiliation (5-3-2) continue to claim a share of 2nd place overall, alongside the Souldiers and (as of Saturday night) the Lads.

The evening's final match saw the Parkdale Porcupines mount another successful comeback, this timer over the Brockton Rockets who, despite scoring first, ended up falling 4-1 to the resurgent Quills. Dustin Harris had the Rockets up 1-0 on a 1st period marker (with Richard Clarkin and Bryan Eelhart assisting) before Porcupine's defenceman Adam Thrasher knotted things up midway through the 2nd (Geoff McPeek and Yan Bourassa were credited with assists on that one). The Porcupines put the Parkdale pedal to Brockton' meddle in the 3rd, though, lighting the lamp with one, two, three unanswered goals off the sticks of Chris Valente, Bourassa and Daniel Tremblay.

The Porcupines see their next action after the Christmas break, when they face off against the Parkdale Hockey Lads on Saturday, Jan. 6 at UCC. The Lads, too, are done playing until the New year. The six other UUHA squads will see their final matches of 2017 transpire this coming Saturday with the Souldiers and Rockets meeting at 7:00 pm, followed by the Gas Station Islanders and Humiliation at 8:00 pm. The evening's 9:00 contest has the Beau's Beer Hack taking to the UCC ice against the Jokers.
