Brockton Rockets, Beau's Beer Hack, Humiliation Post Wins on UUHA All-Play Night

TORONTO - The Jokers and Gas Station Islanders skated to a 3-3 draw, while the Brockton Rockets, Humiliation and Beau's Beer Hack claimed victories over the Parkdale Hockey Lads, Porcupines and Wheatfield Souldiers (respectively) as all eight UUHA teams saw action at Upper Canada College this past Saturday night.

Lads veteran Tommy Gough opened the scoring (on his 47th birthday, no less) at the 9:37 mark of the 1st period, burying a rebound off a shot from defenceman Fernando Freitas to give his side a 1-0 lead over the Rockets. But Brockton's Bruce Worthington erased that advantage just four minutes later, solving Lads spare goaltender Ryan Roberts (on loan from the DMHL's Imperials) with an unassisted tally. Scott Prudham would put the Rockets up by a goal midway through the 2nd frame, combining with Dustin Harris and Oliver Sutherns to light the lamp. Despite three consecutive 3rd period Rockets power-plays, though, that would be the extent of the scoring on the night for both sides, as the Brockton Boys registered their fourth victory of the campaign for a .500 win percentage. The Rockets currently sit in 4th place in the league standings, while the Lads drop to 5th and once again find themselves at the .500 mark.

The last time the Jokers and Gas Station Islanders faced off against one another both teams combined for 11 goals, with the 6-5 advantage going to GSI. This time, scoring was down in the 3-3 contest and the only one skating away with a win was veteran Jokers forward Steve Levine whose three-goal performance was enough to put him on top in the UUHA's scoring race. Levine now has 12 goals on the season and also leads the league with 21 points (accrued in just nine games played). Ian McRobie potted a pair for the Gassers, while team mate Tim Vesely also scored. Gary Rideout Jr. assisted on all three of Levine's goals, the last two of which brought the team back from a 3-1 deficit.

The night's 9:00 pm contest saw a pair of veteran UUHA goaltenders return to the ice after some time off. Beau's Beer Hack's Aaron Brophy dressed for his first game since late October, while cross-ice counterpart John Sutton pulled on his goalie gear for the first time in over two full years. (Both goaltenders have been dealing with injuries of late.) It was Sutton who would be got to first, though, as Hack scoring leader Aaron Foster picked off an errant Souldiers pass to skate in and solve the Souldiers goalie low glove side midway through the opening period. Louis Durand and Chris Barkley made it 2-0 and then 3-0 before the period was over. Souldiers captain Chuck Molgat cut the lead to two goals on a power-play late in the 2nd period, before Chris Cacciotti restored the advantage early in the 3rd. A roofer off the stick of Keven Magura kept the come-back bid alive for the reigning league champions, but the buzzer would sound before any more scoring occurred.

The Hack have now won three straight games after going winless for their first six matches of the season. The Souldiers - who enjoyed their best start ever this season - have now dropped two of their past four contests, ceding first place back to the Jokers in the process.

Luke Scheer and Glenn Gummerson potted 1st period goals to put the Humiliation up 2-0 over the Parkdale Porcupines in a rare 10:00 pm contest this past Saturday night. Daniel Tremblay halved the opposition's lead early in the 2nd, but hopes of drawing even faded over the ensuing shifts as the Humiliation scored four unanswered goals to put the game effectively out of reach for the Quills. Despite mounting impressive come-from-behind wins in their previous two games, the Porcupines were unable to find the back of the net in the final frame, as were the Humiliation, as the game went onto the books as a 6-1 victory for the Black Wizards. Jim Sioukas was responsible for a pair of the winning side's goals, while Mike Thompson and spare Ed Ketchum also scored. The win saw the Humiliation nab a share of 2nd place in the overall standings where they are currently tied with the Wheatfield Souldiers at 13 points.

UUHA Regular Season action continues this coming Saturday night at Upper Canada College with the Lads and Souldiers renewing acquaintances at 7:00 pm, followed by the Hack and Humiliation at 8:00 pm. The Rockets take on the Porcupines in the final match of the evening at 9:00 pm.
