TORONTO - The Parkdale Porcupines mounted a dramatic comeback win over the Jokers, while The Beau's Beer Hack doubled up on the Brockton Rockets this past Saturday night at Upper Canada College, ensuring that no UUHA teams could be accurately referred to as winless on the seasons from this point on. The weekend's slate of games also saw the Wheatfield Souldiers eke out a 4-3 victory over the Humiliation to reclaim sole possession of 1st place in the league the standings.
Despite being down 4-0 in the early goings, the Porcupines mounted one of the most significant come-from-behind rallies in league history to defeat the Jokers 5-4 and claim their first win of the season in the process. Adam Valente, Adam Thrasher and Mike Clark each finished the night with 2 points, with Valente potting the game-winning tally with just under a minute remaining in the game. Jokers sniper Steve Levine potted a pair of goals and also assisted on a Derek Thompson tally early on, but the Funniest Team on Ice was unable to thwart the 3rd period offence put forward by the Porcs, which also included an unassisted tally by rookie Alex Handa.
The Beau's Beer Hack picked up their first win of the season as well, lead by team veteran Aaron Foster who earned a hat-trick in the 4-2 victory over the Rockets. Wade Ivan had the other Hack goal while Chris Cacciotti, Mike Woodgate and Joe McGinty claimed assists. Bryan Eelhart was responsible for both Brockton tallies.
Meanwhile, the Humiliation and Wheatfield Souldiers put in a fast-paced, back-and-forth game in their first meeting of the season, with the score tied for most of the game and neither team trailing by more than than a goal throughout. Souldiers veteran Jimmy Murphy got Burton's Boys on the scoreboard first, one-timing a crisp, off-the-faceoff pass from Chuck Molgat for the game's opening tally. Mike Thompson erased that lead less than three minutes later, though, making good on the power-play with Jimmy Sioukas and Alex Hewitt. Keven Magura would reestablish the lead for the Souldiers shortly thereafter, outwaiting Humiliation goaltender Luke Smit to deposit the puck from a tight angle near the goal line. Alex Hewitt replied not long after, though, sending the game to the 2nd frame tied at 2-2. Sioukas and Souldiers scoring leader Eric Toth would both score in the 2nd, but it was a mid-period wrap-around goal by ageless wonder Magura that would prove the difference maker in the final frame as the Souldiers went on to register the 4-3 win, helped out by spare goaltender Marc Hickox.
UUHA action continues this coming Saturday, Nov. 25 with the Gas Station Islanders (4-4-0) playing host to the Parkdale Porcupines (1-6-1) at 7:00 pm, followed by the Rockets (3-3-1) and Jokers (4-4-0) at 8:00 pm. The Parkdale Hockey Lads (4-2-2) go up against the Beau's Beer Hack (1-5-1) at 9:00 pm. All three games take place at Upper Canada College.
