TORONTO - Jokers veteran Sean Cullen had three goals and an assist to lead his team to a decisive 7-2 win over the Parkdale Porcupines this past Saturday night at Upper Canada College. It was a big night for Cullen's teammates Gary Rideout Jr. and Steve Levine, as well, who finished the game with 5 points each.
The night's other game saw the Gas Station Islanders register an unfortunate forfeit to the Parkdale Hockey Lads after a rental goalie arrangement turned into a no-show. Though officially in the books as a 1-0 win for the Lads, the two teams played to a 4-4 draw in a game that saw GSI go with six skaters and an empty net. Lads forward Tommy Gough potted three goals for his side, making him the first player in UUHA history to register three empty-net tallies in a single game.
Lads goaltender Luis Freitas ended up credited with two wins on the night, as he had backstopped the Jokers as a spare in that team's win over the Porcs. In addition to the aforementioned Jokers players, captain Ted Bisaillion also scored for the Funniest Team on Ice, while Tim Progosh and Craig Hughson contributed assists. Chris Valente and Daniel Tremblay scored for the Porcupines while Mike Clark and Brian Bentley picked up assists.
UUHA regular season action continues this coming Saturday, Oct. 28 with a pair of matinee matches at Maple Leaf Gardens, followed by two more matches at UCC. The Jokers and Wheatfield Souldiers will meet for the second time this month at 3:00 pm at the Gardens, while the Lads and Islanders will close out a back-to-back series of their own an hour later. Later that evening, the Humiliation will return to action vs. the Beau's Beer Hack as both of those teams look to put slow starts to the season behind them at UCC at 7:00 pm. The Porcupines will attempt to do the same at 8:00 vs. the Brockton Rockets.
