TORONTO - The Parkdale Porcupines potted three goals to the Gas Station Islanders' single tally this past Saturday night, avoiding last place in the final Regular Season standings in the process, and punching a dance card with the 2nd-place Wheatfield Souldiers for the opening round of the 2017 UUHA Playoffs. The Islanders, meanwhile, will face the 3rd-place Brockton Rockets in the first round, having finished the Regular Season in 6th place.
Porcupines forward Elias Vastis opened the scoring with just over a minute remaining in the 1st, solving GSI goaltender Sean Markle with an unassisted powerplay marker. About five minutes later it was Adam Valente's turn to do the same, combining with defenceman Adam Thrasher to put his side up by a pair. Chris Valente made it 3-0 with just 12 seconds left in the middle frame, with set-up help from brother Adam and linemate Brian Bentley. But with just six minutes to go in the game, GSI's Brian Nevin converted a pass from John Pickernell to spoil what would've been Porcupines goaltender Dean Bentley's first shutout of the season, affording the trailing side some hope with the score reset at 3-1. That would be it for the scoring, though, as the Quills picked up their sixth win of the campaign.
