Jokers Claim President's Cup With 10th Win of Regular Season

TORONTO - The Jokers Hockey Club defeated the Brockton Rockets 7-3 this past Friday night at Maple Leaf Gardens, garnering their 10th win of the campaign and ensuring a 1st-place finish to the 2016/17 Regular Season in the process. The team's 10-3-1 record, compounded with 3.5 points for penalty-free contests, currently has the Funniest Team on Ice sitting at 24.5 points, meaning that even if they were to lose their final two scheduled games, none of the other seven UUHA squads could catch them in the standings.

Steve Levine had 4 goals and a pair of assists, vaulting him to the top of the UUHA leader board with 30 points. Gary Rideout Jr. finished the night with a goal and two assists, as well. Joel Lacoursiere and Ted Bisiallion also tallied for the winning side. Mike Pett, Dustin Harris and Bryan Eelhart each scored for the Rockets.

In addition to top spot in the standings, the Jokers are also well positioned to claim another Lady Malaysia Trophy title, which is awarded to the UUHA team finishing the Regular Season with the fewest penalty minutes. The Jokers won the Lady Malaysia last season with a total of 26 penalty minutes over 16 games. Currently, the team has the same total PIMs with two games to go, including the second of a back-to-back series this Saturday night. Last year's Jokers also captured the UUHA President's Cup by finishing the 2015/16 Regular Season with 26.5  points and a record of 10-2-6. The Jokers have claimed the Lady Malaysia on one other occasion, having finished the 2014/15 Regular Season with the fewest PIMs in the league as well. As of yet, no UUHA team has claimed the holy trinity of the President's Cup, the Lady Malaysia Trophy and the UUHA Championship Cup in the same season.
