TORONTO - The 2015 UUHA Playoffs will commence at 5:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 21 at historic Maple Leaf Gardens. The postseason action is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday, April 11 at Upper Canada College with the Championship Final set for 9:00 PM that night. The full 2015 Playoffs schedule is now up online. To check it out simply toggle Schedule (above) to 2015 Playoffs, then select either February, March or April for that month's dates and game times.
All eight full-time UUHA teams will be in action at the Gardens of Feb. 21 playing at either 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 or 8:00 PM depending on where they finish in the final Regular Season standings.* The 5:00 PM game will feature the 1st place squad taking on 8th place, while 2nd place meets 7th at 6:00 PM. The team finishing 3rd will face off against 5th at 7:00 PM, and 4th and 5th will go at it in the evening's final match at 8:00 PM. The same teams will play each other the following Saturday night at Upper Canada College in what will be the second matches of their two-game, total-goals Round 1 series.
The four winning teams from Round 1 will face a ceded counterpart (based on final Regular Season standings) in another two-game, total-goals series to be played on Saturday, March 14 and Saturday, March 21, with the two emerging winners qualifying for the Championship Final. The four losing teams from Round 1 will face off on the same dates and in similar fashion, but will competing to qualify for the Semis en route to the Bronze Medal game on Saturday, April 11. The two series losers of the Round 2 winners' bracket will also also qualify for the Semis, which will be contested on Saturday, March 28 at 7:00 and 8:00 PM at UCC. The two teams defeated in the Round 2 loser's bracket will earn spots in the Consolation Final on April 11, while the two teams defeated in the semis will see their postseason come to a close.
The 2015 UUHA Playoffs structure is almost identical to that of last season in that a team must win both of its aggregate series in order to qualify for the Championship Final. The one difference is that that the semis feature the four teams that have only lost one of their two aggregate series competing for a berth in the Bronze Medal Game. Like previous UUHA postseasons, all teams are guaranteed five Playoff games regardless of their performance. Two of the eight teams (the winners of the two Semis) will enjoy one additional Playoff game.
*The final Regular Season standings are determined by removing all team points (wins, ties and penalty-free bonus) incurred from a team's two exhibition games. As such, the league standings as they currently appear on the UUHA web site may change upon adjustment. In the event of a tie, the higher ranked team will be determined by head-to-head results, goal differential or fewest penalty minutes (in that order). If teams remain tied after those three determining factors, a coin toss (or other mutually agreed upon tie breaker) will determine ranking.
