Humiliation Lances Lads While Jokers, Porcupines Post Wins

TORONTO - The Parkdale Hockey Lads suffered one of their most lopsided losses in recent memory this past Saturday night, giving up seven straight goals before responding with a pair of tallies of their own to claim the 3rd period. The game (which was the final contest of 2014 for the Lads) represented the fifth loss of the team's past six matches and dropped last season's President's Cup winners to 6th place in the overall UUHA standings. Still, with a record of 4-6-1, the team remains just two wins back of 500 and has the potential to climb back up the standings in the New Year.

The squad that the Lads faced of against Saturday night had a much different look to it than usual, though, with several regulars out of the lineup and a handful of spares donning the familiar thumbs-down sweaters. Jokers veteran Marc Hickox manned the net for the Humiliation (turning aside 11 of 13 shots in the process) while his teammates Kyle Dooley and Charlie Rishor helped out on the ice. Former Nightmares stalwart Sean Dean spared for the Humiliation, as well. Despite the hired help, though, spares accounted for just a single goal and a single assist on the busy, blotter-like game sheet.

Jim Sioukas and rookie Andrew Blakely collected three points each on the night, while single grapes and apples were attributed to regulars Eric Partington, Luke Moretti and Paul Morris, along with newbies Glenn Gummerson and Lee Finch. Lads Fabian Ruzic and Don Lucey scored for the losing side, while teammates Mike Frolick and Jason Abrams were credited with assists. Lads goaltender Louis Freitas faced a formidable barrage of 25 shots.

With the win the Humiliation's record improved to 5-4-2 which (when compounded with bonus points for penalty-free games) is just two points back of the 1st-place Porcupines and a half point behind the 2nd-place Wheafield Souldiers (7-2-1). The Orange Tide will have a shot at spending the holidays in top spot in the standings this coming Saturday evening when they face off against the Souldiers at 7:00 PM.

In other UUHA action this past Saturday night, the Jokers doubled up on the Gas Station Islanders 4-2 while the Porcupines edged the Brockton Rockets 3-2. Charlie Rishor and Kyle Dooley (2) and Mike Takacs scored for the Jokers while Gary Rideout Jr, and Steve Levine collected three assists each. GSI's goals came off the sticks of Nick Purdon and Ian McRobie. Porcupines defencemen Matt Latreille and Adam Thrasher, along with forward Todd Moffat, potted that squad's goals, while Oliver Sutherns and Ryan Offert tallied for the Rockets. (Interestingly, Jokers hyphenate Marc Hickox also spared in net for the Porcupines, giving him a remarkable three wins on the night.)

UUHA action continues this coming Saturday, Dec. 20 with the Humiliation and Souldiers facing off at 7:00 PM, followed by the Dufferin Groove and Brockton Rockets at 8:00 PM. The final game of the night - and the year - features the Parkdale Porcupines and the Beau's Beer Hack at 9:00 PM. All three games take place at Upper Canada College. Following a week-long break for the holidays, the UUHA Regular Season will reconvene on Saturday, Jan. 3 at UCC. Happy holidays!
