TORONTO - The Wheatfield Souldiers were officially congratulated in the Manitoba Legislature this past week for winning the 2013-14 UUHA Championship. New Democratic Party MLA Matt Wiebe (Concordia) closed out Members' Statements on Thursday, May 22 by extending a figurative hats off to the team, naming each layer by name and detailing the Souldiers' seven championship titles over the past 15 years of existence.
"Made up of eight teams, the UUHA plays every Saturday night
through the winter at Upper Canada College and at the newly renovated
Maple Leaf Gardens," Wiebe noted. "UUHA players also take part in two
league mingle tournaments: the Yule Log and the Supercup. In these
tournaments, the teams are mixed and everyone gets a chance to play with
their regular season opponents, thus promoting a climate of
sportsmanship and collegiality among its members."

. All but four roster spots on the Wheatfield Souldiers (or Winnipeg Wheatfield Souldiers, as the team is also known) are occupied by players hailing from the province of Manitoba.
Wiebe's official recognition of the Souldiers' win was preceded by Members' Statement relating to flooded farms in rural Manitoba, new members of the Order of Manitoba and an item eulogizing deceased Manitoba industrialist John M. Wiens.
