TORONTO - The Humiliation followed up their opening-round upset win by claiming another victory, this time edging the Parkdale Porcupines 2-1 in Game 1 of their two-game, total-goals, 2nd round playoff series. Meanwhile, the Lads held on to defeat the Gas Station Islanders 6-5 while the Beau's Beer Hack came back from a three-goal deficit to better the Wheatfield Souldiers 4-3. The Jokers were victorious as well this past Saturday night, downing the Brockton Rockets 4-2.

Humiliation rookie Jim Sioukas opened the scoring at 5:40 of the 1st period, corralling a pass from Stephen Cribbin to solve goaltender Dean Bentley. Porcupines rookie Corey Thorn then drew his side even early in the 2nd frame, teaming up with Adam Valente and Ivan Kredl to get the puck behind Humiliation goaltender Luke Smit. However, less than two minutes later, and with the Humiliation enjoying a power-play, Sioukas intercepted a 'Pines clearing attempt to skate the puck in and score shorthanded, regaining the one-goal lead for the Orange Tide. His second marker of the match would stand up as the last goal of the game as the Humiliation skated off the ice with a one-goal lead in the series. Game 2 goes next Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 PM.

The Parkdale Hockey Lads took a commanding 4-0 lead into the 2nd period of Game 1 of their series with the Gas Station Islanders (Kyle Welton, Mark Duquette and Dave Ball were the goal scorers, the latter with a pair), including an opening goal scored with an extra attacker in place of last-minute spare goalie Chuck Molgat, who was a couple of minutes late getting onto the ice. Rookie Ian Seeton made it 5-0 early in the 2nd frame as the short-benched Lads appeared well on their way to a lopsided victory. Appearances can be deceiving, though, and the Isles drove that fact home with an impressive five unanswered goals of their own beginning with rookie Michale Chipman's tally at the 6:58 mark, and ending with a Cam Collyer goal at 7:41 of the 3rd period. The flurry of scoring also saw the twine bulged by Gassers Brian Nevin and Tim Vesely. But with just under 5:00 minutes remaining, Seeton combined with Stu Muirhead and Ryan Kalinka to reopen GSI goaltender Sean Markle's earlier wounds and pot what would stand up as the game-winning goal. The Lads now take a one-goal into the second game of the series which is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 9:00 PM.

Though not as seemingly commanding as the Lads' early lead, the Wheatfield Souldiers surprised the opposition Beau's Beer Hack with three unanswered goals in the first half of Game 1 of their semi-final Playoff series. Eric Toth, Brad Sveistrup and Jimmy Murphy each solved goalie Aaron Brophy with Sveistrup, Keven Magura and Mike Harkness being credited with helpers. But with under two minutes left in the middle frame, Chris Barkley got his side on the scoreboard with a power-play shot to solve Souldiers keeper Sheldon Shurland. Barkley would score again in the 3rd, along with Wade Ivan and Aaron Foster, whose breakaway tally at 2:07 capped the impressive comeback and stood up as the game-wining goal. The Hack takes a one-goal lead into Game 2 of the two-game, total-goals series which is set to go this Saturday at 8:00 PM.

Brockton Rockets forward Michael Wilcox put his team up midway through the opening period of the first of two games vs. the Jokers. Craig Hughson drew the Jokers even about four minutes later, scoring unassisted on goaltender Nathan Cardon. Early in the 2nd period, however, Ryan Offert combined with Paul Shields for a shorthanded tally to put the Rockets back on top. But the 3rd period belonged to the Jokers as goalie Burke Lawrence locked the door and swallowed the key while Tim Progosh, Hughson and Charlie Rishor potted successive goals to give the Jokers a two-goal advantage heading into Game 2 of the series. That contest takes place at 7:00 PM next Saturday, March 29 at Upper Canada College.

The winners of the Rockets/Jokers series and the Lads./GSI series will face off against each other on Saturday, April 12 in the Bronze Medal Game, while the victors in the Porcupines/Humiliation and Hack/Souldiers series will take to the ice that same night in the Championship Final. Meanwhile, the losing teams from all four current series will play on Saturday, April 5 for berths in the April 12 Consolation Final. All those games, along with all remaining Playoff matches, will take place at UCC.
