TORONTO - The Jokers handed the Beau's Beer Hack their second consecutive loss this past Saturday afternoon at Maple Leaf Gardens, while the Parkdale Porcupines downed the Brockton Rockets later in the evening at Upper Canada College. The Dufferin Groove, meanwhile, enjoyed their most lopsided victory of the season, coming back from an early one-goal deficit to vanquish a spare-studded Humiliation 7-1.

Jokers forward Mike Takacs opened the scoring with just nine seconds remaining in the 1st period, completing a play from Charlie Rishor and Ted Bisaillion for his sixth tally of the season. Gary Rideout Jr. then made it 2-0 early in the 2nd, combining with Steve Levine and Craig Hughson for his team-leading ninth goal of the campaign. Takacs and Rishor would put another pair up on the scoreboard midway through the 3rd frame (with Bisaillion and Paul Irving assisting), but the Hack's George Stroumboulopoulous would spoil Jokers goalie Burke Lawrence's shutout attempt with only four minutes remaining in the game, converting a pass from linemate Aaron Foster for his squad's lone marker of the game. The shutout would have been Lawrence's third of the season. (With two previous donuts this season, Lawrence is currently in on a five-way tie for league-leading honours in the shutout category.)

Unfortunately, the Wheatfield Souldiers vs. Gas Station Islanders game that had been scheduled for 3:00 PM at the Gardens was cancelled at the request of the Ryerson Rams, whose men's hockey team laid claim to the ice for a practice in advance of their playoff series-deciding game the following night. The cancelled match is expected to be rescheduled sometime in the next two weeks.

In other Saturday UUHA action, the Porcupines shot down the Rockets to extend their unbeaten streak to three games. Porcs defenceman Adam Thrasher dominated scoring in the match, potting three straight first-half goals for the natural hat-trick before adding a fourth tally late in the 3rd period with Rockets goalie Nathan Cardon midway to his team's bench for the extra attacker. Chris Valente also scored for the Porcs, while Paul Shields and Michael Wilcox potted a goal each in the 3rd period to make more of a game of it than the final score might suggest.

Despite taking a one-goal lead early in the opening period, the crisp passing and solid offence of the Dufferin Groove proved too much for the Humiliation, who ended up on the losing end of a lopsided 7-1 affair. Duff Worden, Chris Dinsdale and Bruce Freeman lead the way for the winning side, finishing the exhibition contest with 5, 4 and 3 points respectively. Captain Mike Thompson scored the lone goal for the Humiliation, who will have one more shot at another regular-season win when they face off next Saturday, March 1 at 9:00 PM against the league-leading Parkdale Lads - a team the Humiliation is almost certain to come up against in the 1st round of the 2014 UUHA Playoffs.

Next Saturday will also see the Porcupines take to the ice against the Dufferin Groove at 7:00 PM and the Jokers face off against the Gas Station Islanders at 8:00 PM. Meanwhile, the Wheatfield Souldiers and Brockton Rockets will renew acquaintances in a special 4:30 PM matinee match on UCC's Olympic-sized ice pad.
