TORONTO - A mixed-squad of Screamin' Jays displayed a surprising amount of chemistry and depth this past Sunday afternoon, as the Parkdale Lads were downed by a wire-thin margin of 6-5 at a rare McCormick Arena matinee contest. Meanwhile, Saturday night's UUHA action saw the Beau's Beer Hack drop the Humiliation by a score of 3-1 while the Parkdale Porcupines pricked the Gas Station Islanders by an identical 3-1 margin. The Brockton Rockets also suffered defeat Saturday night, coming up short against the Dufferin Groove. Can you guess what the score was? That's right: 3-1

Lads sniper Kyle Welton opened the scoring in his team's Sunday afternoon tilt back at McCormick Arena, solving Screamin' Jays goaltender Dave Bidini unassisted just a minute-and-a-half into the opening frame of the historic homecoming match. But by the time the buzzer signaled the end of the 1st period the Jays had drawn even thanks to a goal from rookie Mike Murphy, who benefited from a set up by Porcupines defenceman Adam Thrasher and Rockets regular Joseph Desjardins. Thrasher notched his second point early in the 2nd period, this time solving Lads goaltender Luis Freitas unassisted. But Welton answered back less than a minute later with his second unassisted tally of the game making it 2-2. Then it was Jokers leading scorer Gary Rideout Jr.'s turn to bring it, as he combined with Souldiers forward Scott Montgomery and Thrasher to put the Jays back on top.

The third frame witnessed three goals from each side with Stu Muirhead, Mike Frolick and Welton lighting the lamp for the Lads, while Desjardins, Morningstars forward Greg Thomas and free agent Sean Cordner each stepped up to keep pace and then secure the win for the Jays.

With the victory the Screamin' Jays maintained a perfect record going 2-0-0 in exhibition play so far this season. That stat may not mean much, though, as just four players have competed in both Jays games. Still, it's something to marvel at. The Jays UN-like roster on this particular afternoon was rounded out by CCCP's janet Morassutti, the Humiliation's Kelly Dutton, Wheatfield Souldiers Jimmy Murphy and Rodney Merchant, free agent Gregor Beresford and Jokers forward Mike Takacs (along with previously cited players). The Lads, meanwhile, welcomed Black Hearts veteran Kimmy Temple to the fold as a spare for the occasion.

For the 1st place Hack it was George Stroumboulopoulous, Mike Woodgate and Tim Bolen bulging the twine behind goaltender Matt Barber, while Mike Thompson registered the lone marker for the Humiliation. Hacker Stefan Barkley and Humiliation spare Sean Cordner claimed the game's only assists. Aaron Brophey made 14 saves en route to his seventh win of the season.

Porcupines defenceman Adam Thrasher potted a pair of goals in his team's match with the Gas Station Islanders, while James Walker contributed the late insurance marker. GSI's lone goal came off the unassisted stick of spare Mike Thompson. Todd Moffat and Brian Bentley collected assists for the 'Pines while Dean Bentley earned the win in net.

And in the late game it was Lee Kinder scoring all three goals for the Dufferin Groove. James McCudden and Derek Smith (2) were credited with helpers. Meanwhile, Mario Vela spoiled the shutout attempt of Groove goaltender Chris Dinsdale midway through the game's final frame, finishing off a goal-front scramble involving linemates Ian St. Aubini and Joseph Desjardins.

UUHA Regular Season action continues this coming Saturday, Feb. 15 at Upper Canada College with Beau's Beer Hack going up against the Gas Station Islanders at 7:00 PM followed by the Wheatfield Souldiers taking on the Parkdale Porcupines at 8:00 PM. The Jokers and the Lads are scheduled to face off at 9:00 PM.
