Porcs Extend League Lead While Humiliation Finds Win Column

A monkey (similar to the one pictured above) was removed from the collective back of the Humiliation Saturday night when the team outscored the Brockton Rockets 4-2 on route to their first victory of the season.

TORONTO - The Humiliation found the back of their opponent's net on four different occasions this past Saturday night, increasing their goals-for total by 200 per cent and claiming their first victory of the season in the process. Meanwhile, the Parkdale Porcupines bettered the Beau's Beer Hack 3-1 to ensure a minimum two-weeks lock on 1st place in the overall league standings. And in UUHA exhibition play, the Parkdale Lads yielded an early lead to the Dufferin Groove who ultimately triumphed 5-2 in the only scheduled meeting between the two teams this season.

Rockets defenceman Paul Shields opened the scoring at the 5:00 minute mark of the 1st period, converting a cross-zone feed from Kiryl Nikifarau to solve veteran Humiliation goaltender Chris Sanagan. But before the end of the frame, Luke Moretti sprung linemate Stephen Cribbin for a successful breakaway to knot the game at 1-1. Rockets blueliner Brett Linott got his side back on top with a hard screen shot from the point early in the 2nd, posting a lead that would stand up until the end of the period. But the 3rd would belong to the Orange Tide as Moretti, along with spare players Jim Soulakis and Mark Sanagan lit the lamp with a game-tying goal, a game-winning tally and an empty-net insurance marker before shaking hands on a 4-2 win.

Duncan Bunclark, Cribbin, Moretti and spares Rodney Merchant and Matt Latreille were all credited with assists on the various Humiliation goals. Michael Wilcox picked up a helper on the Rockets' second tally, as well. The victory bettered the Humiliation's record to 1-4-1, while the Rockets dropped to 1-3-1 on the season.

Parkdale Lads defenceman Nick Hehn potted the loan goal of the 1st period in his team's 8:00 PM contest with the Dufferin Groove, solving goalie Heath Donaldson on an unassisted, Bobby Orr-like rushing effort at the 2:35 mark. The 2nd period would see the Groove's sticks come alive, though, as James McCudded, spare Brett Barnes and Chris Dinsdale each bulged the twine behind Lads tender Luis Freitas. Tom Nesbitt one-timed a nifty pass from Lads leading scorer Kyle Welton midway through the 3rd to draw his side back within a goal. But Jeremy Wilton and Groove captain Tim Freeman would step up in the final 5:00 minutes of the match to ensure their team's place in the win column, putting a stopper in the Lads' four-game undefeated streak in the process.

Alex Lackovic, Barnes, Cameron Ohlman, Oliver Jiminez and Bruce Freeman (2) earned helpers on the Groove side of the game sheet. The loss finds the Lads tied with the Jokers for 2nd place in the league standings with a 3-1-1 record. The Groove, meanwhile, improve to 2-0-2 and remain undefeated in their exhibition campaign.

The Beau's Beer Hack's Louis Durand got his side off to an early start in the final match on the Saturday night UUHA card, finishing off a tight passing play with Lance Moreton and Aaron Foster to beat goaltender Brandt Kalloway just over three minutes into the game. The Porcupines teenaged phenom Ivan Kredl answered back before the first bell, though, scoring mid-slide off a sweet feed from Adam Thrasher to draw the Quills even at 1-1. Porcs spare Corey Thorne would make it 2-1 early in the 2nd period, solving Hack goalie Aaron Brophy to register a power-play marker at the 9:54 mark. Young Kredl then combined with Thorne and linemate Todd Moffat midway through the final frame to light the lamp with what would stand up as the insurance marker.

The win bettered the Porcupines record to 5-1-0, bolstering the team's hold on 1st place in the league standings by a full three points ahead of both the Jokers and Lads (both of whom, however, enjoy a game in hand on the Porcs). The Hack (2-2-2) currently sit one point behind the two aforementioned squads.

UUHA action resumes next Saturday, Nov. 9 with the last-place Wheatfield Souldiers returning to action against the Brockton Rockets at 7:00 PM. The Lads and Jokers are scheduled to tussle for 2nd place overall at 8:00 PM, while the final game of the night will see the Groove attempt to remain unbeaten vs. the Gas Station Islanders. All games take place at prestigious Upper Canada College's William B. Wilder Arena.
