TORONTO - Will it be Wheatfield Souldiers vs. Gas Station Islanders, Jokers vs. Lads or Humiliation vs. Porcupines in the opening games of the 2013 UUHA Playoffs? Or will none of these scenarios transpire? Those questions, along with a few other playoff match-up queries, will be answered this weekend as all six full-time UUHA teams take to the ice for their final games of the Regular Season calendar.
The only apparent certainty going into the weekend is that the Humiliation, regardless of the outcome of the team's 8:00 PM contest with the Lads, will finish the Regular Season in 3rd place overall. (Even if GSI wins and go penalty-free in both of the team's remaining games, a points tie with the Humiliation would see the Orange Tide prevail having garnered two fewer PIMs in the teams' head-to-head play this season - both games of which ended in draws.) Theoretically, GSI could still finish last in the Regular Season standings, providing the Porcupines prevail in their 7:00 PM Saturday game vs. the Isles, and the Lads win (and go penalty-free) on Sunday evening in High Park (the Lads would also have to win a penalty-free contest against the Humiliation on Saturday). Other end-of-Regular Season certainties include the fact the Jokers and Souldiers can finish no lower than 2nd place overall, and the Lads can finish no higher than 5th place.
This year's Regular Season final standings include all points accrued vs. exhibition teams, as agreed upon at the most recent UUHA Board of Governors meeting. In previous seasons, the results of all games vs. exhibition teams were removed to determine final Regular Season standings. However, as this season saw all six full-time teams play an equal number of games against the same exhibition teams the unanimous decision was to include the points.
The 2013 UUHA Playoffs will commence on Saturday, March with the 1st and 6th place teams playing at 7:00 PM, followed by 2nd and 5th place at 8:00 PM and 3rd vs. 4th at 9:00 PM. Winners of those games will play a round-robin series the following Saturday (March 9), while the three other teams do the same on Saturday, March 16. The two round-robin winners will play for the UUHA Championship Cup at 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 23. The Bronze Medal Game and Consolations Final will take place that same evening at 8:00 and 7:00 PM respectively.
