TORONTO - The Humiliation posted a 5-3 upset win over the slightly favoured Wheatfield Souldiers on Saturday night. The victory earned the Orange Tide bragging rights as the lone undefeated team of the UUHA's inaugural season. The Humiliation benefited from a pair of goals each by forwards Mike Thompson and Paul Simmons. Simmons, who has been on fire of late, posted his second consecutive two-goal effort of the campaign. The teamís scoring was rounded out by Paul Morris, who got the Humiliation on the board early in the 1st period. Meanwhile, Humiliation forward Stephen Cribbin secured a place in the UUHA record book by collecting a minor penalty (hooking) just 31 seconds into the game. The Souldiers, however, failed to capitalize with the man advantage.
Wes Gerbrandt, Keven Magura and Jim Murphy potted goals for the Souldiers, who came on late but ultimately came up short.
In the night's other contest, the Gas Station Islanders bagged their first victory of the season, dispatching the Jokers 4-3 in a hard-fought back-and-forth contest. The lion's share of GSI's scoring came from forwards Klint Davies and George Collins, who combined for a stunning 7 points. Along with his 2 goals and 2 assists, Collins also collected three incidental minors, negating a chance at the hatrick (in accordance with UUHA rules, a player must leave the game after incurring three minors). Despite his penalty woes, Collinsí efforts were recognized with 1st Star honours.
Jokers scoring came from Tyler Stewart, Paul Irving and Steve Levine.
UUHA action continues next Saturday at Upper Canada College. See the league schedule (above) for game times and matchups.
