TORONTO - On a day that also saw the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Washington Capitals in Game 2 of their first-round NHL Playoff series, the Toronto Toros issued a dire warning to all doubters by winning the 2017 Super Cup Championship. Though tied for points with Team Impulse! at the end of round-robin play, the Toros easily defeated Team Impulse! in a tie-breaking, full-team shootout which pitted the entire Toros squad against just four members of Team Impulse! including goaltender Luis Freitas. The balance of Team Impulse! had already vacated the McCormick Arena premises rather than sticking around for an additional hour to see whether or not their points lead would hold up beyond the final match of the tournament. The game saw the Toros edge the Red River Rebellion for a share of the tournament lead, before claiming the title in the numerically lopsided shootout.
Team Impulse! GM Seth Singer was not immediately available for comment.
