Yule Log IV Team Rosters Announced

TORONTO - Rosters for this year's instalment of the annual Yule Log tournament have been announced. More than 35 players (most of them members of the six current UUHA teams) are expected to participate in the mixed-team event which kicks off Friday, Dec. 23 at McCormick Arena. This will be the fourth edition of the popular holiday tourney, regarded by some participants as the most fun hockey fete of the year.

The Big Stars roster will consist of Parkdale Hockey Lads Jason Abrams, Fernando Freitas, Simon Evers and Ryan Kalinka, along with Wheatfield Souldiers Mike Wilk and Kelly McCaig. Humiliation sniper Mike Thompson and teammate Duncan Bunclark will also don the gold-star-festooned Black sweaters, as will Seth Singer of the Gas Station Islanders, Jokers veteran Marc Hickox and goaltender Luke Smit. Mike Belitsky is expected to fill McCaig's vacant skates for the team's opening game on Friday, Dec. 23.

The Toros  blue line is expected to be patrolled by the likes of Souldiers Rodney Merchant and Keven Magura, Parkdale Porcupine Geoff McPeek and the Humiliation's Graham Duncan. Lads Tom Nesbitt and Mike Frolick will be reunited with former teammate David Egli who will be making his first return visit to Canada since emigrating to Switzerland last spring. Souldiers points leader Eric Toth and Porcs threat Brian Bentley round out the Toros bench. Porcupines goaltender Dean Bentley will backstop the Toros.

Subtle Tendencies will see Lads Kyle Welton, Fil Freitas, Fabian Ruzic and prospect Terry Martins in red sweaters, along with Humiliation defenceman Eric Partington and teammate Kelly Dutton. GSI's Kevin Lacroix and Hez Cunningham are set to split a blue line assignment, while versatile Souldiers veteran Rob Zifarelli is expected to provide some offence along with Matt Sharon and Sean Cordiner. Humiliation forward Stephen Cribbin is expected to be a game-time decision for Subtle as he continues to convalesce from an upper body injury. Lads goaltender Luis Freitas will provide the final line of defence for the Subtle side.

All Yule Log IV games will be played at McCormick Arena. Here's the game schedule:

Game 1: Subtle Tendencies vs. Big Stars - 6:30 pm Friday, Dec. 23
Game 2: Toros vs. Subtle Tendencies - 7:30 pm Friday, Dec. 23
Game 3: Big Stars vs. Toros - 6:45 pm Tuesday, Dec. 27
Championship Game: 6:45 pm Wednesday, Dec. 28 (two-hour game)

A small number of single-game Yule Log fill-in spots currently remain available, so if you are interested in playing please send an email to uuhadood@gmail.com. All friends of the UUHA are encouraged to join us for the Friends & Family Skating Party scheduled for approx. 7:00 pm Wednesday, Dec. 28 on McCormick Arena's small ice pad (a small donation is suggested to help cover the rental fee). There will also be a pot-luck buffet set up in the Nixon Room throughout the Yule Log Championship Game. Thanks in advance to those who plan on contributing something to the potluck! (If possible, please drop us an email at uuhadood@gmail.com to let us know what you're planning to bring.) A post-Yule wind-up will take place following the Championship Game, location TBA.
