Is it time for Don Cherry to take a hike?
Yes, he's a sad old bigot.
No way, he's a national treasure.
I'll miss him, but he ought to retire.
We should continue to benefit from his keen hockey sense and laudable sense of patriotism.

Jokers' Lawrence, Rockets' Dickson Post Shutouts While Hack Edges Lads 5-4

TORONTO - The Jokers blanked the Wheatfield Souldiers 4-0 this past Saturday night at Upper Canada College, while the Brockton Rockets posted the same lopsided score over the Humiliation. Meanwhile the Beau's Beer Hack defeated the Parkdale Hockey Lads 5-4.

Marc Hickox's shorthanded tally late in the 1st period opened the scoring - and the floodgates - on what quickly went from a fast, tightly contested match between long-time rivals, to a one-sided blowout, at least in so far as the scoreboard was concerned. Three more unanswered Jokers goals, all scored in the middle frame, off the sticks of Steve Levine, Sean Cullen and Mike Takacs, pretty much sealed the deal with a full period yet to play. The only remaining question was whether or not veteran Jokers' goalie Burke Lawrence would maintain his solid play long enough to deliver the goose egg. He did, and he registered his league-leading 2nd shutout of the season in the process, turning aside all 20 shots put at him by the Souldiers. With the win, the Jokers (who were credited with 16 shots on the night) took over top spot in the league standings from the Gas Station Islanders, who weren't active on this particular night.

The Beau's Beer Hack's Chris Cacciotti and Aaron Foster made it 2-0 by the midway point of the 1st period in the team's 8:00 pm matchup with the Parkdale Hockey Lads this past Saturday night. The Lads, who were looking for their first win in 20 games, rose to the challenge, though, potting the next two goals (both of them scored by Kyle Welton) and threatening to send proceedings to the 2nd frame all tied up before Cacciotti sprung Tim Bolen for the go-ahead tally with 40 seconds on the clock. Lads regular Mike Ryan erased that lead in the 2nd, although the respite was brief as Aaron Foster and Louis Durand combined to reestablish, then bolster, the Hack's advantage within the first two-and-a-half minutes into the 3rd. Welton's hat-trick tally late in the final frame proved too little, too late as the Hack extended the Lads unprecedented losing streak, putting them one game away from the anniversary (Nov. 24, 2018) of the team's last win.

The 1st period of the Humiliation and Brockton Rockets' 9:00 pm contest saw zero goals scored and the teams almost deadlocked in shots on goal (8-9 in the Humiliation's favour). But that changed early in the  2nd frame when Blaine Tynes combined with league scoring leader Dustin Harris and Oliver Sutherns to light the lamp behind spare goalie Dan Hammerle at the 11:29 mark. The reigning league champs would register three more goals in the 3rd period with Sutherns, Bryan Eelhart and Harris each tallying, issuing the Humiliation their 4th loss if the campaign while improving to 4-2-0 on the season and claiming 3rd place in the standings in the process.

UUHA action continues this coming Saturday, Nov. 16 with the Brockton Rockets taking on the Beau's Beer Hack at 7:00 pm, followed by the Jokers and Humiliation at 8:00 pm. The night's final tilt will see the Parkdale Hockey Lads go up against the Gas Station Islanders at 9:00 pm. All three games take place at Upper Canada College's William P. Wilder Arena.

Jokers Extend Gently-Used Equipment Drive to Benefit Northern Communities

TORONTO - The Jokers, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Etobicoke, are extending an ongoing equipment drive to get hockey gear to Indigenous kids in remote fly-in communities in Northern Canada. The team will be collecting donated gear up until their game on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Upper Canada College. Jokers captain Ted Bisaillion encourages members of other UUHA teams to grab all the gently used gear they can and bring it to the rink the next two Saturday evenings.

"The Rotary Club has been at this since 2012 and in the communities that got gear they have seen the suicide rate drop 80 to 90 per cent for kids between eight and 17 years old," says Bisaillion, adding all types of hockey gear is needed with the exception of socks and jerseys.

The Jokers, along with the team's corporate partner Safety First, are also making a generous cash donation to the equipment drive initiative of over $700. And if that's not inspiration enough, check out this link to see the kids of Sandy Lake putting some donated gear to great use (near the end of the video).

The Jokers play at 8:00 pm this coming Saturday, so if you've got gear to donate please factor that game time into your logistics.
